Job Description

Our employer is looking for an Electrical Engineer to be responsible for providing engineering expertise to manufacturing, product sales and support areas. Applies Engineering knowledge to the design and development of test and measurement equipment.

Recognized as "Blue Box" Solutions, they have introduced a complete line of high accuracy metrology based calibration equipment for DC Resistance, Voltage and Temperature applications as well as standards for AC Power applications.

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Designing electrical and electronic systems and equipment
  • Recording, analyzing and interpreting test data
  • Designing and conducting tests aiming to improve equipment accuracy
  • Investigate root causes of failure and implement strategies to continuously improve equipment reliability
  • Developing firmware for embedded system
  • Developing software for user interfaces
  • Developing maintenance and operating standards for electrical and electronic systems and equipment
  • Proposing modifications and retesting products;
  • Preparing product documentation, writing reports and giving presentations;
  • Monitoring a product in use to improve on future design.
  • Creating, editing, reviewing and approving electrical schematics as well as manufacturing procedures related to the electrical systems
  • Supporting technical services with the resolution of field issues
  • Servicing and maintaining equipment;
  • Determining project specifications
  • Preparing budget cost and timing estimation to complete projects
  • Identifying opportunity to grow instruments or systems capabilities 
  • Maintain communication with the engineering team
  • International travel may be required
  • Coding and development firmware and user interface 
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and/or 3 to 5 years of experience in embedded systems
  • Experience in designing, coding and testing applications to support and control measurement equipment
  • Knowledge of software developing tools including but not limited to C++, C#, VB6, VB.NET
  • Experience coding and testing applications for 8-bit and 16-bit microcontroller
  • Experience of VHDL or Verilog
  • Experience of real time programming
  • Ability with PIC controllers is an asset
  • Knowledge of IEEE 488.2 protocol and SCPI standard
  • Knowledge of interfaces and protocol such as RS232, SPI, I2C, LAN
  • Experience coding and testing applications for embedded controllers based on Windows CE and Win7 embedded
  • Experience with Linux is an asset
  • Ability to debug and modify existing software
  • Ability to define technical specification,
  • Ability to design flow charts and test plans for new and existing applications
  • Use statistics to analyze measurement standards and processes
  • Responsible for performing production and field service returns testing and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated detailed root cause analysis troubleshooting skills
  • The ability to evaluate and troubleshoot complex instruments and systems
  • Ability assembly and disassembly of electronic equipment using basic hand tools
  • Ability to interpret schematics and drawings, perform modifications and accomplish rework to new and used subassemblies and systems
  • Experience with the use of laboratory measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, variable power supplies, and digital multi-meters
  • Facilitate sharing of knowledge across the engineering department
