Job Description

As the starting and senior position within our hardware team in Ottawa, you will design and develop optical line system products, delivering electronic and electro-optical PCBAs for said products along with proof-of-concept boards, load boards and test boards in support of development and manufacturing. These line card products include EDF amplifiers, Raman amplifiers, ROADMs, OPM, OCM, optical switches, OTDR, spectrum equalizers and the like.

Key responsibilities and deliverables:
• Board design including schematics capture, owning and driving PCB placement and layout
• Translate architecture and system requirements into design and write functional and design specifications for high reliability products
• Co-design with FPGA, mechanical engineering, diagnostics and SW driver engineering
• Drive prototype process and own HW bring-up, SW and FW integration
• Develop validation test plans with X-functional input and approval
• Complete design validation including test reports
• Execute quick turns to resolve bugs found in other design validation or in system validation testing
• Complete manufacturing verification of design including second source and low cost components
• Accomplish value engineering initiatives for HW designs

 

Job Qualifications

> As we need both Senior and Non-Senior Engineers with Hardware experience in Optics industry minimum professional experience required is 5+ years in this industry

 

Experience Requirements
• At least 10 years of engineering experience in appropriate function
• Board level hardware design, including strong knowledge of schematic capture, PCB layout, logic, microprocessors, DDR3 RAM, Flash, op-amps, signal integrity
• High speed I/O and clock termination designs
• Low speed, very low noise analog circuits including op-amps, ADC, DAC
• Digital circuits
• Power circuits including implementation of on board power converters, dc-dc step-up, buck and linear regulators
• Designing with FPGA (preferably Xilinx), including definitions for pin-out and writing requirements for FPGA designers
• Design implementation with SOC devices
• Good knowledge of ARM based multicore processor platform such as Xilinx Zynq family or similar
• Designing for optical components such as lasers, VOAs and MPDs

Skill Requirements

• PhD (with 10 years’ experience) or Masters or Bachelor degree (with 15 years’ experience) in electronics engineering
• Knowledge of Cadence Concept is not essential but considered a plus
• Good understanding of Telecom standards for SONET and Ethernet Protocols is a plus
• Knowledge of power sequencing, clock skew control / compensation.
• Knowledge of PCB fabrication, PCB Stack-up, fab & assembly design rules, product integration.
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Hands-on lab test experience with JTAG debugger, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer
• Good writing and communication skills required
• Candidate must be a quick-learner and self-starter: energetic, flexible and positive
• Able to work independently with little supervision
• Proficiency in English speaking and writing
