Job Description

Our employer is looking for a Staff Accountant to join their team. This is an amazing opportunity for a self-motivated individual who is looking to progress their career in Accounting. The qualified individual must be able to work with new and existing clients.

Reporting to the CAO, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for working directly with the clients and all aspects of the accounting and taxation processes for clients. The Staff Accountant will focus on the following activities:

• Full cycle accounting;
• Prepare regular financial reports, income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flow for various clients;
• Responsible for monthly and quarterly financial bookkeeping and period end closing;
• Prepare timely and accurate journal entries as required;
• Coordinate with accounting clerks to prepare monthly and quarterly analysis;
• Review general ledger accounts activities to ensure account accuracy of financial statements;
• Prepare HST returns and Payroll remittances;
• Prepare periodic bank reconciliations;
• Prepare Personal and Corporate Income Tax returns;
• Develop and maintain new client relations;
• Meet new clients and promote firm services; and
• Provide support to management in various related activities. 

Job Qualifications

• An accounting designation (CGA, CA, CMA, CPA) or a Post-secondary education in Accounting is required;
• Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience;
• Experience working with Small/Medium Businesses;
• Knowledge or exposure to GAAP/IFRS is preferred;
• Good knowledge of Excel, Sage Simply Accounting, QuickBooks, Taxprep and Caseware;
• Capable of managing demanding situations;
• Capable of solving problems and using sound judgment;
• Strong communication skills and ability to answer client questions, communicate effectively with clients in writing, over the phone and in person;
• Must be comfortable promoting firm services, working on and offsite with clients and signing new clients;
• Quality and detail oriented and able to meet tight deadlines;
• Excellent team player; and
• Bilingual (English/French) would be considered an asset.
